In the past, insurance disputes mainly involved insurance products for individual holders of insurance policies such as life insurance, fire insurance and motor insurance. Recently however, new types of disputes have been emerging in the insurance industry as sales of new types of insurance products specially designed to insure against risks that may occur in the course of corporate business (such as package insurance, contractors’ all risks insurance and directors' & officers’ liability insurance) have increased.

In the meantime, international transport has been evolving into a combined form of transport in which transports by sea, air and land are combined. Especially, as domestic companies have been actively pursuing construction and plant projects abroad, project transports which allow transport of all the equipment and materials required for such projects en bloc have become an essential part of the transport industry. Such developments and changes in the transport industry have also influenced the legal aspect of the industry such that related laws and treaties are being formulated and amended both in Korea and abroad.
